This zarzuela by Francisco Asenjo Barbieri, with a libretto by Luis Mariano de Larra, is a gem of the Golden Age of zarzuela. Set in the Lavapiés neighborhood during the reign of Charles III, it tells the story of political and romantic intrigues involving Lamparilla, a lively barber, and the aristocratic Marquesita. With its brilliant music and witty libretto, this work masterfully combines satire and romance, making it one of the most iconic pieces in the Spanish zarzuela tradition.
